Isaak Altinyay

Isaak Altinyay (b. 2003) is a visual artist and sound designer. His work is situated at the immediate intersection of Concrete Art and sound design. Through the exploration of sonic patterns and mathematical sequences, he develops an interdisciplinary practice crossing material, sound, and image. Each project is guided by a strict structural logic and systems of controlled recurrence, rejecting narrative linearity in favor of the pure presence of sound and form within space.Consequently, the resulting aesthetic aligns with the precision of geometric art and the rationality of design. His research into sonic didactics — exemplified by his study on the functional role of ambient music productions — envisions compositions not as objects of emotional contemplation, but as autonomous and objective structures founded on rigorous laws.Isaak Altinyay laid the foundations of his practice during his studies at the Haute école des arts du Rhin (HEAR) in Mulhouse. It was during this curriculum and through several notable group exhibitions that he began to bridge frequency and plastic architectures. Particularly influenced by the logic of non-synchronized loops and time-based systems derived from the legacy of Brian Eno, he deploys a compositional method that is both theoretical and technical. This demanding path has been enriched by a conceptual rigor reinforced by a close collaboration within SYMETRIA Editions. Recently appointed as art director of the publishing house alongside Jean-Charles Kien and Christian Savioz, he infuses the structure with his transversal vision of contemporary geometric abstraction. Alongside his personal research conducted in the studio, he actively participates today in the editorial evolution of the house.

Lightning for the Specific Direction of the Mind is a limited edition of 50 numbered copies. It results from an exploration of systemic and mathematical composition, structured around precisely desynchronized loops (an accurate desynchronization). This project was produced using synthesizers such as Arturia Matrix 12, Solina, Prophet V, and Yamaha DX7 with Ableton Live and WaveLab. It offers a functional form of music, designed to automate the listener’s perception, eliminating the need for contemplation. Each piece is screen-printed, individually numbered, and signed. This edition includes four screen-printed postcards, each representing a track from the album, along with a booklet providing an intimate look into its production process.

Phons is an edition of paintings and sonic work representing the perception of a constant (440 Hz) across 16 different steps of sound pressure, measured in dB from 0 to 140.From the top-left angle, this spatial perception of the constant is represented through the
metric of phons
.

D in 1 is a unique painting connected to the album Lightning for the Specific Direction of the Mind.
It translates a track into a chronogram, mapping the alternation between action and pause within the loops. Each loop repeats at the same frequency; in fact, their points of recurrence are never synchronized, so the pulses never align.
This work embodies the principle of desynchronization — a core element of the album’s compositional method and a structural foundation of ambient music. By transposing this temporal displacement into a visual form, the painting unveils the silent architecture underlying the sound.
